Mai 18 2022
Een bezoek aan Lissabon
Lisbon, city of the seven hills, decorated with tiles, planted by the Tagus. Full of history, culture, light. In Portas do Sol, you can find Janelas Verdes, with views of Graça and songs with its name. From the cobblestones to the top of the castle, Lisbon has many secrets to unravel. Today, we invite you to explore it with your eyes. Take a deep breath, feel the breeze from the river and relax. The truth is, you don't need to do anything... just enjoy the view.
1. Portas do Sol viewpoint
A balcony with views of Alfama, one of the oldest, most traditional and most picturesque neighborhoods in Lisbon. From here we can see corners and alleys with colorful houses and clothes drying on clotheslines. We hear the echo of fado through the stairs, we recognize the National Pantheon and we embrace the Tagus River with our eyes. Located on the hill of São Vicente, the Miradouro das Portas do Sol is one of the most classic viewpoints in the city, which transports us to other times. It makes us want to stay, contemplating the authentic neighborhood of Alfama, colorful and full of genuine people.

2. Sophia de Mello Breyner viewpoint
We depart the emblematic tram 28 heading towards Graça. Located on one of the most famous hills in the city, next to the castle hill, the Sophia de Mello Breyner Viewpoint (also known as Miradouro da Graça) is a must-see for locals and tourists. Decorated with pine trees that offer the perfect shade on summer afternoons, here we can sit on the terrace and contemplate the Castelo de São Jorge, the Mouraria, the Martim Moniz, Baixa Pombalina, Convento do Carmo and Monsanto. Without forgetting, of course, the one that, according to Fernando Pessoa “is the most beautiful river that runs through my town”, our Tagus.

3. São Pedro de Alcântara Viewpoint
Arriving at Miradouro São Pedro de Alcântara, it is important to say: those who climb for pleasure never get tired. With one of the best views of Lisbon, this viewpoint is located at the top of the Elevador da Glória, being considered one of the largest and most emblematic viewpoints in the city. From here we can observe the frenzy of Avenida da Liberdade, Restauradores and Baixa-Chiado. But not only. It is also an open-air window to the Castillo de San Jorge and its imposing walls. Since we are here, we can take the opportunity of having a drink and identifying some of the most iconic places in Lisbon in the original mosaic map that attracts the most curious of glances.

4. São Jorge Castle viewpoint
Stunning up close, from a distance, outside and inside. We are in the castle. After observing it from various points in the city, it is time to look at Lisbon through the eyes of São Jorge. From here, among so many things, we contemplate history through the Baixa Pombalina and the ruins of the Carmo Convent, we can see the dome of the Basílica da Estrela, we can see the Avenida da Liberdade and Monsanto, not to mention that each viewpoint we climb, the Tagus, steals our attention. On the other side of the river, we are presented with the silhouette of Palmela, Arrábida, the coast of Almada, and to the East, the fields of the < b>Ribatejo.

5. Torel viewpoint
A recently renovated viewpoint, where benches recite poetry and aromatic plants take shape. Surrounded by green spaces and a romantic 19th century garden, Miradouro do Torel invites you to read, relax and fall in love. To get there you have to take the Elevador da Lavra, the oldest in the city. Later, we lean on a bench while we read Ary dos Santos, and wait for the sun to go down, with Avenida da Liberdade, Baixa and São Roque as a backdrop. At night, small decorative lights are turned on that add charm and special beauty to the viewpoint.

Now that we have seen Lisbon from above, we invite you to descend from the seven hills and lose yourself in the narrow streets of the city. Try the famous ginjinha to the sound of fado, go up to the castle with a touch of History and recite poetry while contemplating the Tagus.
Lisbon is waiting for you, and so are we!
